Stafford County is located 40 miles from the Nation's Captital and 10 miles from Historic Fredericksburg, VA.  Stafford is home to several historical landmarks such as George Washington's childhood home of Ferry Farm. The region also features endless park space, championship golf courses, and the Marine Corps Base at Quantico.

 

 

 

 

 Living in Stafford County

The Stafford County VA real estate market is located about 50 miles north of Richmond, and 25 miles south of Washington, D.C. There are roughly 124,000 residents living in Stafford County, including a number of active and retired military personnel.

Stafford County homes are located within the metropolitan area, which makes it convenient for those commuting to work in D.C. However, because the county is a little further away, housing prices tend to be much more affordable than other parts of Northern Virginia.

The county is very proud of its rich history, but it is also progressive in terms of future development. The area has experienced a great deal of growth in recent years, and hosts a number of Fortune 500 companies. The county was even named as one of the country's "Best Places to Get Ahead" in 2008. This is an excellent area to settle down, with great plans for the future.

 

Recreation and Activities

Residents enjoy the area's many recreation opportunities, which include over 1,000 acres of parkland, two fishing lakes, the Rappahannock River, and the Potomac River. Also located in Stafford County are three renowned golf courses—Augustine Golf Club, Cannon Ridge Golf Club at Celebrate Virginia, and the Gauntlet Golf Club at Curtis Park.

In addition to numerous outdoor adventures, Stafford County also houses recreation centers, art studios, wineries, and several sites of interest for history buffs. Popular sites include Chatham Manor, Gari Melchers Home and Studio at Belmont, George Washington's Ferry Farm, the National Museum of the Marine Corps, and the White Oak Civil War Museum.
