Marshall is an unincorporated village located in the hunt country of northwestern Fauquier County. Established in 1797 as Salem, Marshall was re-named in 1882 in honor of John Marshall, our country's first Chief Justice who grew up in the area. The village is centered along State Route 55 between two exits on Interstate 66 and affords easy access to the Nation's Capital and its surrounding retail, cultural and recreational activities. Although Marshall has historically been an agricultural community, its designation as one of 5 service districts within Fauquier County resulted in an upsurge of business and professional service offerings to the equestrian and agricultural interests in the surrounding region.

Among the village’s historic buildings, the One Room School House PS17, which was the last one-room school to close in the 1960s, has been recently renovated and draws visitors from the surrounding area. Marshall’s oldest building, The Old Salem House, contructed in 1771 as a Baptist meeting house, is the sole remaining colonial church building in Fauquier County.
Marshall is a small but active community with its own Business and Residents Association, Volunteer Fire Department, Rescue squad, community center, library and community park. The attraction in Marshall is its small town charm away from the hustle and bustle of city life, the beautiful rolling landscape and good ol' southern hospitality. There are a variety of choices for Real Estate in and around Marshall for those looking for land, custom homes or single family homes with some elbow room that afford some privacy or those that prefer small in-town living.
