Just 20 minutes from the Nations Capital, The City of Fairfax is an independent city in Northern Virginia and forms a district within the borders of Fairfax County.  Even though governmentally independent from the flourishing county of Fairfax, the City of Fairfax is nonetheless its county seat. The City of Fairfax's rich heritage follows the development of the nation - from a rural crossroads to a prosperous cosmopolitan area.  

 

Living in Fairfax City

The City of Fairfax is known for its historic district, shopping, dining, cultural arts performances and a whole series of festivals held throughout the year. it is also home to George Mason University where students from around the world come to learn.  Fairfax City has multiple sites on the National Register of Historic Places that include The Old Court House (1800) , The Old Jail (1891) , Old Fairfax Elementary School Annex (1873), The City of Fairfax Historic District and a number of restored historic homes.
