Living in The Plains

Today’s pasturelands, marked by post & rail fences and stonewalls, make it easy to see how this rural outpost received its distinctive name in 1749.  Growth restrictions in Fauquier County have allowed The Plains to remain lush with horse farms, wineries and sprawling acres of green and gold farmland. The Plains has established itself as a picturesque country town with antique, gourmet and specialty shops as well as home to some of the areas finest restaurants - The Rail Stop, Girasole and Forlano's Market . Real Estate in The Plains consists primarily of Single Family detached on larger parcels of land and is the perfect location for those looking for privacy, elbow room and small town charm.

Recreation and Activities

In addition to its small town charm, The Plains is also home to the luxurious Grey Horse Inn and the  Great Meadow Event Center which hosts the annual Virginia Gold Cup, International Gold Cup, polo events, Friday Night Twilight Polo and the annual Wine & Polo Festival.
